Salamis was one of the main city-kingdoms in Cyprus and archaeological finds here date back to the late Bronze age (11th century BC). With influences from the Phoenicians, Byzantines, Greeks, Persians and Romans, Salamis is one of the most historically fascinating archaeological sites on Cyprus.
Varosha is the former tourist area of Famagusta which during the 1960's was the most glamourous holiday resort in the Mediterranean. Long sandy beaches lined with upmarket hotels, restaurants, night clubs and all kinds of modern entertainments attracted visitors from all over the world, including royalty and celebrities. Following the Turkish invasion of 1974, Varosha was evacuated and sealed off from the world until 2017 when it was partly re-opened to the public. This is a poignant and reflective tour which gives you a glimpse of a heart wrenching time in history.
