Kantara is the easternmost castle in the Kyrenia mountains and is believed to date back to the 11th century. at 600 meres above sea level it served as a watchtower against pirate raids on the North coast of Cyprus. Explore the Castle ruins at your own pace with your own private guide. This tour is available from Ayia Napa, Protaras and Larnaca.

Description

Kantara Castle was one of three defensive structures built in the Kyrenia Mountains during Byzantine times. At 600 metres above sea level it served as a watch tower against pirate raids off the North Coast. It has sweeping panoramic views over the tranquil and scenic countryside.

Kantara is known for its impressive towers and battlements. The highlight of the visit is the breath-taking view of the rugged coastline, forests and mountains, This is a perfect spot for photography and tranquility.

The castle has a long history and changed hands many times, although it saw little fighting. It passed trough the hands of Richard the Lionheart, the Knights Templar, The Lusignans and Venetians.

After we have visited the castle we will stop in a local village where you can visit the shops or purchase lunch or refreshments.

This tour lasts around 4-4.5 hours and your own private guide will show you the wonders of this beautiful location. Take time to wander the ruins of the castle complex and admire the endless stunning views.
