Explore the tranquil medieval village of Kakopetria with it's rushing streams and unique architecture. Breathe in the fragrant mountain air as you journey through the pine forested peaks of Troodos.

Description

This tour explores the history and culture of Cyprus combined with panoramic sightseeing. The main focus of the tour is a visit to one of the most important places on the island - the wealthy and opulent Kykkos Monastery. On our way there we travel through the green heart of Cyprus, the Troodos mountains, viewing the stunning natural landscapes and stopping at the medieval Kakopetria Village.

The first stop of the day is a short coffee break near the small village of Astromeritis. After this we make our way up into the Troodos Mountains and on to Kakopetria village. This traditional style village has charming cobbled streets and fantastic architecture. You will be delighted by the tranquility of the location complimented by 2 rushing streams and the fragrant pine forests that surround the village.

We then proceed to Throni, high in the Troodos mountains, where the tomb of the first president of Cyprus, Archbishop Makarios III, is located.

The main stop of the day is the jewel in the crown of Cyprus, Kykkos Monastery. Home to one of the last surviving icons painted by Saint Luke, the interior is covered in richly decorated frescoes and dripping in gold. The Monastery dates back to 1092 and was founded by the Byzantines. It is the most important religious site on the island of Cyprus but these days it also welcomes tourists from all over the world to marvel at the astounding decorations.

At Kykkos you have free time to explore, enjoy lunch in a cafe or shop for souvenirs.

Pick up times / locations

This tour is available from Ayia Napa areas, Protaras/Pernera/Kapparis and Larnaca tourist areas.

Pick up will be from designated pick up points around the resort.

Your nearest pick up point may be a few minutes walk from your hotel. Your exact pick up location and time will be advised upon confirmation.

Please be waiting at the pick up point before the time stated in case the bus is running early. Pick up times start around 07.30am in Ayia Napa, 07.00am Protaras and 08.10am in Larnaca.

Return times are approximately - Larnaca 17:30, Ayia Napa 18.15,, Protaras 18:45

Know before you go - Important Information

The tour bus is not wheelchair accessible. Wheelchairs which are foldable can be carried in the luggage compartment under the bus. You must be able to climb the stairs of the bus.

Please note that many parts of Kakopetria Village are not accessible by wheelchair.

Infant buggies/strollers which are foldable can be carried in the luggage compartment under the bus.

Infants aged under 2 years must sit on their parents lap during the tour.

Food and drinks are not allowed on the bus (water is allowed only)

The front seats of the bus may only be reserved for people with disabilities* (see note below).

Children are welcome on this tour. Please note that is a long day of travelling and might not suit all children.

Pick up times are around 07.30 am from hotels in Ayia Napa, 07.00am in Protaras and 08.10 am from hotels in Larnaca area.

Return times are Larnaca around 17.30, Ayia Napa around 18.15 and Protaras around 18.45.
