Explore the turbulent history of the island with this full day tour into Northern Cyprus. Visit the ancient cities of Famagusta and Kyrenia where you will find traces of the past everywhere. Route / Itinerary

• Pick up from hotels in Larnaca 07:45 - 08:05

• Enter the border through Strovilia (Vrysoulles) checkpoint

• Free time in Famagusta Old Town Centre for sightseeing (approx. 1 hour)

• Guiding at the gothic Bellapais Abbey (approx. 45 mins)

• Free time in Kyrenia Harbour for sightseeing and lunch (lunch is an optional extra not included in the price) (approx. 2 hours)

• Short drive on the bus alongside Varosha, also known as the “Ghost Town” (the fenced sealed-off area of Famagusta)

• Exit the border through Deryneia checkpoint

• Estimated return: in Larnaca around 18.00

Description

This fascinating full day guided tour to Northern Cyprus will take you through some stunning landscape scenery as you discover the historic cities of Famagusta and Kyrenia.

The first stop of the day is the ancient city of Famagusta. You will have time to explore the old town area, visiting the numerous churches and historic buildings or wandering the quaint back streets. Admire the Gothic church of Saint Nicholas, Othello Castle and the immense Venetian walls.

We then head inland and up through the dramatic peaks of the Pendadaktylos Mountains to the 13th century Bellapais Abbey. Perched above the city of Kyrenia, the ruined gothic masterpiece of the Abbey has breath-taking views and an air of tranquillity.

The tour then heads down to the historic harbour of Kyrenia. Picture postcard perfect, the pretty harbour is dominated by the ancient fortress of Kyrenia Castle. The castle now contains a small museum which houses the remains of one of the oldest shipwrecks in the world as well as many other interesting artifacts. Relax with a coffee at a peaceful harbourside cafe, shop for souvenirs or explore the Castle.

Leaving Kyrenia we head East once more and we drive along the fenced off area of the Varosha ghost town, once the most glamourous beach resort in the Med, abandoned since the Turkish invasion in 1974.

Pick up will be from designated pick up points around the resort. Please see below for list of pick up points., Your exact pick up time and locations will be listed on your confirmed.

Your nearest pick up point may be a few minutes walk from your hotel. Your exact pick up location and time will be advised upon confirmation.

Please be waiting at the pick up point before the time stated in case the bus is running early. Pick up times start around 07.45am in Larnaca.

Return times are approximately - Larnaca 18:00

For customers in Larnaca, you will be collected by the local bus service and taken to Ayia Napa where you will join the excursion coach for the start of the tour and the same on the return journey,

Know before you go - Important Information

The tour bus is not wheelchair accessible. Wheelchairs which are foldable can be carried in the luggage compartment under the bus. You must be able to climb the stairs of the bus.

Infant buggies/strollers which are foldable can be carried in the luggage compartment under the bus.

Infants aged under 2 years must sit on their parents lap during the tour.

Food and drinks are not allowed on the bus (water is allowed only)

The front seats of the bus may only be reserved for people with disabilities* (see note below).

Children are welcome on this tour.

Pick up times are around 07.45 am from hotels in Larnaca area.

Return times are Larnaca around 17.00

Passports or European Union Identity Cards are needed on the day of the excursion.

For this excursion, clients staying in Larnaca area are transferred to and back from the excursion bus near Ayia Napa with a mini bus or with the local bus service, free of charge.

Clients must have with them their Passports or their EU National Identity (ID) Cards

Only the citizens of European Union Countries are allowed to use their National Identity (ID) Cards to cross the checkpoint. All other nationalities must use their Passports for crossing. Only original documents can be used for crossing. Photocopies of the original documents, or other forms of identification (e.g., driving licenses, temporary residence permits, etc.) cannot be used for crossing.

Armenian, Syrian, Nigerian and Turkmenistan citizens cannot join this excursion, unless they have a special visa

Ukrainian citizens living in Cyprus with a refugee status cannot join this excursion as they are not allowed to cross the border.

Greek citizens that have the old National Identity (ID) Cards which are handwritten with a pen, cannot join this excursion. Greek citizens must have with them either a new National Identity (ID) Card or their Passport to be allowed to join this excursion
