Description

Nicosia is the capital of Cyprus and sits in the heart of the island. It is the only divided capital city in the world and has a fascinating and diverse history. Today it is a modern and busy city with an abundance of shops alongside the historic landmarks and ancient sites.

We first make a short stop at the Cyprus handcrafts centre to discover the traditional crafts and products of the island before we reach the city centre. Once we get to the city we will have a short drive around the main monuments and places of interest.

We then stop inside the walls close to the old town where you have around 3 and a half hours free time to explore the old part of Nicosia, visit the Ledra street border crossing or wander the narrow lanes of the Laiki Yeitonia area, shopping for souvenirs. If you prefer you can head to the more modern part of the city where you will find designer boutiques and outlet stores.

During your free time there, you also have the chance to cross the barrier (also known as the “Green Line”) that divides the Cypriot capital city of Nicosia into the southern Cypriot region and the northern, Turkish controlled Cypriot region since the Turkish invasion in 1974. The Turkish occupied part of Nicosia that remains in a time-lock also has many interesting places to visit. Please note that passports are required if you wish to cross the border.
