Buffavento stands between Saint Hilarion Castle to the west and Kantara Castle to the east and has endless panoramic views over the sweeping coastline. This gentle hike through unspoilt countryside will take you back to nature and a place of tranquillity. Explore the Castle ruins at your own pace with your own private guide. Description

Buffavento Castle was one of three defensive structures built in the Kyrenia Mountains during Byzantine times. It served as a watch tower against pirate raids off the North Coast. It has sweeping panoramic views over the tranquil and scenic countryside.

The castle has a long history and changed hands many times, although it saw little fighting. It passed trough the hands of Richard the Lionheart, the Knights Templar, The Lusignans and Venetians.

At an elevation of 960 metres above sea level, there are approximately 600 steps leading up to the castle. Our nature hike to the castle does not require extreme levels of fitness, just an enjoyment for nature and ability to walk distances on uneven terrain.

This tour lasts around 4-4.5 hours and your own private guide will show you the wonders of this beautiful location. Take time to wander the ruins of the castle complex and admire the endless stunning views.

Know before you go - Important Information

This tour is not suitable for wheelchairs or anyone with walking difficulties. The terrain is uneven through nature trails.

Children are welcome under their parents supervision. Please bear in mind that it is a long day with lots of travelling so may not suit all children.
