Long sandy beaches lined with upmarket hotels, restaurants, night clubs and all kinds of modern entertainments attracted visitors from all over the world, including royalty and celebrities. Following the Turkish invasion of 1974, Varosha was evacuated and sealed off from the world until 2017 when it was partly re-opened to the public.
